4 Mental health assessment 1 – therapeutic communication H5P

The intention of this video is to assist students in learning about therapeutic communication and to reinforce the idea that mental health and well being is an integral part of the human experience. The interaction takes place in a renal clinic as a patient awaits her appointment.  Students are encouraged to observe the patient / nurse  interaction and identify a variety of therapeutic strategies the nurse uses to communicate caring. At the end students are encouraged to reflect on their observations and feelings and to consider what relational practice means to them on a personal level.
